San Luis Valley Volunteers

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation -- matching local problems with people age 55 and older who are willing to help. RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve and how many hours they can serve. Volunters organize neighborhood watch programs, tutor teenagers, renovate homes, teach English to immigrants, program computers, help people recover from naturla disasters -- whatever their skills and interests lead them to do. Created in 1993 with bipartisan support of Congress, the President, and community groups nationwide, the Corporation for National Service is a public-private partnership that administers three national service initiatives -- the National Senior Service Corps, which includes Foster Grandparents, Senior Clomapnions, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program; AmeriCorps, which includes more than 400 local and national sponsors, as well as AmeriCorps*VISTA andAmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps; and Learn and Serve America, which provides models and resources for teachers integrating service into classrooms from kindergarten through college.
