No, it's not the Mod Squad from the 60's but it's the GEAR HEADS!

 

Brainstorming ideas

In early Spring of 2004, interested professionals joined Mi Animo Prevention in designing add-ons to the after-school program. Robert Mathis, 4-H Extension Agent, and Carol Pastore, 4-H Horse instructor, attended an initial brainstorming.

Finding used valve covers

L & M Auto donated the 14 valve covers for the event

Blake, yet another young gear head, stands victorious over an old Chevy. The valve covers will be sanded, repainted and hitched up with wheels from used roller blades for the end of July race in Monte Vista.

Getting into the engine

A valve cover in any other vehicle besides a 1972 Chevy Nova is still a valve cover--even if it says Powered by Ford or Chrysler. However, the real test will be in the racing of the valve covers designed and refurbished by student and mentors.

These two gear heads take a break from the hot sun in Colorado Springs. They have enjoyed planning the valve cover model workshops and race.

Memorial Park car show

Not only did the select few from the after-school auto club get to attend the show, but students from Mi Animo and Sí Se Puede made an adventure out of the late April trip, as well. Gear heads found a way to learn and plan for other vehicle activities.
